Catching up
As the beginning of semester craze begins and everyone becomes acclimated to their semester work load and make sure they are on there game for the tough weeks to come later in the semester, here I am, in the tough weeks holding on for dear life to play the game I like to call catch up. I like the classes I take, and when I actually sit down to do the work I know I can do it but I suffer the rough life of out of this world ADHD and constantly wonder what else is there rather than what is actually in front of me. My weekly stories become harder and harder as I think of another story idea each day better than the other, never giving me time to actually work on just one damn story. I fill my head with constant different scenarios and perfect stories that blow my mind, then bam something comes along and it all slips. The thing about this time is catch up is actually fun. I've been so caught up in the grades of writing that I forgot I actually like to do it. I love to put my thoughts on paper, no matter how jumbled they may seem to you, or even me. The insane complex inside my brain breathes for a bit and is able to connect to the outside and grab hold of what there is to actually do, rather than what I want to do. So this time rather than barely breathing, I'm coming to a place of relaxation that this is actually possible. Take that catch up, seems like this time I got you.
Traveling
I recently learned that I was accepted into the Budapest 2014 study abroad program and it got me thinking. Traveling has been a dream of mine ever since I can remember and this opportunity is more than I feel I could have asked for. I am going to make the best of it and see the most I can possibly see. It makes me wonder about those who haven't seen much more than the inner working of their home towns, and never make it past the border of that state that almost starts to mentally entrap them. My home town is a place where if you make it out sane and successful, good for you. Hometowns can do that to you. THey almost seem as if they are the only thing out there and really what can be better than a home cooked meal and your family? In my mind, a lot is better than that. The world is a never ending world of opportunities when you take advantage of it. I haven't traveled much yet, but I know once I do I won't want to stop. I want the world become my muse, my will for writing, and my drive for success. It will bring me experience, cultural diversity and a different kind of intelligence. Intelligence through seeing, which to me is the the best way of learning.
Futures
As I sit and do work in the library I look around and think about all the people around me and how they will all follow different and unique futures, but that they will all be a different kind of news one day. News comes from the people who live within in and are affected by it everyday, and soon enough they will be the politics we work with, the businesses we write about, the nurses and doctors we commend and so on and so forth. People don't appreciate the other people around them enough. We pass by hundreds of people everyday and don't even think twice about the people we do not know unless we feel we have to. It's always about what they are and what they can do for you, rather than the fact that without other people what would we really have? News would be nothing without the public. The public would be nothing without people. People are nothing without each other in many ways.

What I still don't understand about news
What I still don't understand about news is it's constant restraints. The politics is really what I mean. Writing is supposed to be about truth, passion and for the love of doing it. When money, politics and business comes into it a sense of corruption comes alongs with it as well. No matter what you do all those factors will come along, but I guess what I'm saying is I don't get the use for them in general. I know why they come about, but I guess it's wishful thinking to hope for the cold hard truth. I was reading a play for Brit Lit the other day and there was a line said by one of the characters that caught my attention. "The truth is hardly pure and never simple." That is exactly it, the truth is ideal but not always possible. It's hard to expect truth from something when we rarely live true to how it's really supposed to be. We made this world the way we wanted, and for the ones who didn't want it this way rest we live the way we want to fight it. It's the way of life.
Highways
As I was on my way back to UNH from my hometown this weekend I peered out the window a majority of the 6 hour ride. What else is there really to do? I watched as Florida, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina and several more states license plates pass me throughout my trip whether I be in that certain state or not. It made me wonder how what matters to me a New Yorker currently residing in New Hampshire have the same interests or idea of news as the next person possibly from California or maybe even another country. People come from all over and what I've come to realize to that no two places are alike, so how can peoples interests be the same? It a question I always ask myself. Top news catches the attention of the most people possible because it is urgent and surprising, it's interesting to me that our top story could be another newspapers low grade every day story.

Netflix
I was recently reading TNH and I came across an article about Netflix. Netflix seems to have become a huge epidemic among the college community, but is it detrimental to our school work? Or even our attention span? Shows have a schedule, they premiere on TV once a week during the season so that the suspense is built up and in my opinion, you retain the plot and the bulk of the show in a better way. With the opportunity of watching every episode at once, it causing temptation to watch one after another and end up done with a 6 season show in a matter of weeks. With out fail, it has the attention of most students, and on a regular basis takes priority to find out what happens to Walt, in Breaking Bad, for example rather than writing one's 10 page paper the night before it's due. it can't be healthy to binge watch our favorite shows, but most of all, can't be helping those who lack the self control to pick school first.

Government
The government has a huge impact on everyday lives whether it's goes unnoticed or not. The shutdown of the government has struck many as confusing, aggravating, pointless, and many other adjectives that still go no where as they refuse to agree on any type of compromise. Personally, the government shutdown is confusing. They are looked at as role models and the stepping tools to a say in our government, and they can't even come to a decision that doesn't involve shutting down all government activity. People are out of jobs with out pay, unable to step upon government owned land, and many more everyday life rituals due to the government shutdown. A decision is important in order to get things moving again, and it doesn not seem promising any time in the near future. Are they supposed to stay shut down until the next election? The new year? Who is to say they won't just do it again as well? We are supposed to have a say, but without those who control our say, it goes no where but within our own personal circles.
Homecoming
Every year thousands of students come together for a common cause: Homecoming. More than half of the students there don't even care for football the other 4 months of their season, but all come for the very common attraction, tailgating. Like every year, students and alumni come from all over, park there cars, eat, celebrate, and most of all drink. It's interesting to have such a destructive tradition a proud and annual event for UNH. This year, word went around about a URI student being physically assaulted for even being there at all. School pride and rivalry is understood to a certain level, but there is really no excuse for such violent activity to take place over a football game due to drunken tempers and over load of testosterone. He apparently was bleeding from his head and was seen by many UNH students. Looking over the news, there was no article to be found. Something that should be reported no doubt, went under the radar of the proud UNH day, nothing could bring there spirits down.

Alumni Dinner
This past weekend I attended the 2013 UNH sailing team's Parent/Alumni dinner. In doing so I picked up on many stories I felt I would be able to write about for this upcoming week. As we spoke about in class, there is no story in an event that happens every year. The thing was that during the dinner the coach, Diana Weinbacher, informed the team that were having boats donated to us. A few years back, there was a fire to the UNH sailing boat house, causing the loss of over 75 boats. During her announcement at the dinner on Saturday, October 5th, she also said that with these donation we are either at or past the numbers of boats the team lost during the tragic fire. Being on the sailing team, this is a subject I am very interested in and am planning to write about for the upcoming week. The subject of the fire will be a interesting one to bring back up in light of a great new accomplishment for the team.
